Close in weapon support(CIWS) last line of defence for a vessel against incoming airborne threats. If surface to air missilie(SAM) failed to shoot and destroy incoming airborne targets then close in weapon system will last hope for a warship to protect itself.
"Kahand" 30mm, 6 barrels CIWS gun developed by Islamic republic of Iran. It's able to hit airborne targets at a range of 2 kilometres with firing rate of 4000-7000 rounds per minute. Iran unveiled her first close in weapon system(ciws) gun as a named of "kahand" in August 2018s. Iranian "Alband" class frigates equipped with "Kahand" Ciws gun.
According to Tasnim news agency, An Iranian official was stated "Iran is working on a home-version of U.S.-made Phalanx, a close-in weapon system (CIWS) for defense against anti-ship missiles"
But It's looks like Russian AK-650 Ciws.
